Planning your renovation

What happens at a design consultation?

We visit your home, measure the room, look at the floor, framing, plumbing, drainage and ventilation, and talk through how you want the space to work. We then prepare drawings where needed and a written scope and quotation.

Which towns do you cover?

Moe 3825 and nearby towns including Newborough, Yallourn North, Moe South, Trafalgar, Yarragon, Morwell, Narracan, Willow Grove, Hill End, Thorpdale, Tanjil South, Westbury and Erica.

Why don’t you publish fixed figures for bathrooms?

Every room differs in size, condition, layout and selections, and hidden issues such as rotted floors change the scope. A visit lets us give you an accurate written quotation rather than a guess.

Can I supply my own tiles and fixtures?

Usually, yes. We check your selections suit the waterproofing system, rough-in positions and layout, and confirm delivery times before booking trades.

Do you renovate laundries and powder rooms as well?

Yes. We renovate laundries, powder rooms, ensuites and main bathrooms, and can plan several rooms together so plumbing and trades are coordinated.

Moe and valley homes

My house was built after the war and sits on stumps. Is that a problem?

Not at all. It is the most common type of home we work on. We inspect the floor, joists, bearers and stumps once the old bathroom is removed and repair or stiffen them before waterproofing and tiling.

What if you find rotted timber under the floor?

We show you what we find, explain the repair and confirm any additional work with you before continuing. Rot around old showers and baths is common in older valley homes.

Could my bathroom contain asbestos?

Homes built before the late 1980s may contain asbestos in fibre cement sheeting, vinyl floors and adhesives. We arrange testing of suspect materials, and any asbestos is removed by a licensed removalist with clearance obtained before our work starts.

Can you renovate bathrooms in fibro homes?

Yes. Internal linings are removed safely where required, walls are insulated and relined with wet-area sheeting, and the external cladding is protected.

My property is on tank water and septic. Does that change anything?

We check pump capacity, filtration and hot water before choosing fixtures, and we connect drainage correctly to your on-site system. Adding fixtures or a bathroom may need council advice about the wastewater system.

Waterproofing and compliance

What standard do you waterproof to?

All wet areas are waterproofed to AS 3740, the Australian Standard for waterproofing domestic wet areas.

Will I receive proof of the waterproofing?

Yes. We photograph the membrane before tiling and provide documentation at handover.

Are your trades licensed and insured?

Yes. We are licensed and insured, and plumbing and electrical work is done by licensed trades who issue compliance certificates where required.

Can a leaking shower be fixed without a full renovation?

Sometimes. If only grout or sealant has failed, resealing may be enough. If the membrane has failed, the lasting fix is to remove the tiles and install a new membrane to AS 3740. We assess it honestly.

Why does waterproofing take several days?

Each coat must dry and the system must cure fully before tiling. In cold, damp valley weather this can take longer, and rushing it is a common cause of failure.

Timing and living at home

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

It depends on the size of the room, layout changes, structural repairs and selections. Your written scope includes a timeline specific to your bathroom.

Can I stay at home during the renovation?

Most clients do. We protect floors and entries, control dust and clean up daily. If you have only one bathroom, we plan toilet and shower arrangements with you beforehand.

What if I only have one bathroom?

We discuss options such as keeping a separate toilet in service, completing the shower as early as practical, or scheduling around time away.

Do you work around shift workers?

Yes. Let us know about sleep times and we will plan noisy stages such as strip-out and tile cutting around them where practical.

Will there be a lot of dust?

Strip-out creates dust, so we seal doorways, cover floors, use extraction on tools and clean daily.

Design and features

Should I keep the bath?

It depends on who uses the room. Families with young children often keep one; many older households prefer a level-entry shower. We help you weigh up the options.

Can you build a level-entry shower on a timber floor?

Often, yes. The floor structure under the shower can usually be adjusted to create a set-down, allowing a step-free entry with correct falls and waterproofing.

Do you design bathrooms for ageing in place?

Yes. We include level-entry showers, wall reinforcement for grab rails, comfortable toilet heights, lever tapware, slip-resistant floors and good lighting, and we work with occupational therapists when needed.

How do you deal with mould in valley bathrooms?

We install exhaust fans ducted outside, add insulation where walls and ceilings are open, and offer heating such as in-floor heating and heated towel rails to keep the room dry.

Can you help me choose tiles and finishes?

Yes. We help you narrow down tiles, tapware, vanities and lighting, and check that selections suit the room, the waterproofing and the way you live.

After the renovation

What do I receive at handover?

A walk-through of the finished room, care guidance, waterproofing records, compliance certificates and product warranties.

How should I care for my new bathroom?

Run the exhaust fan during and after showers, squeegee glass and walls, clean with mild products and check sealant at corners regularly.

What if something needs attention after the job?

Get in touch and we will arrange to look at it.
